Archbishop Gregory Aymond's Plan for Recently Released Persons (including
notes taken by Felon Families of remarks) 10 Steps
Bible verse, Matthew 25 could easily encompass the concept that "when I
was released from prison, you welcomed me back into the community of faith."
The first 72 hours after release from prison are the "most dangerous" for a person.
Jesus is calling released persons to a "true change."
The following are 10 Steps that are very important to consider to receive recently
released prisoners:
1) WELCOME THEM BY NAME.
2) TELL THEM THAT "GOD IS THE GOD OF SECOND CHANCE,
AND SOMETIMES A THIRD AND FOURTH CHANCE.
3) WELCOME, HELP, AND SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES.
4) HELP THEM FIND HOUSING.
5) HELP THEM FIND WORK.
6) MENTOR THEM.
7) CHALLENGE THEM TO WORK TOWARD REHABILITATION.
8) INVITE THEM INTO A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST.
9) HELP THEM RECONCILE WITH THEIR VICTIMS.
10) BE A PRESENCE FOR THEM SO THEY CAN BECOME A
"PEOPLE OF THANKSGIVING."
